how to get mothur to read files from a portable hard drive

Hi all,

Just wonder if any of you know how to get mothur read fastq files from a portable hard drive?

Due to the limited free space on my computer, I have an external hard drive to store my fastq files and wanted to analyse them. I’ve tried to redirect mothur to read those files, but failed several times.

It would much appreciated if any one could help me with it. Thank you all in advance!

USB probably isn’t fast enough to read/write files. several steps in the sop (alignment and dist esp) will generate very large files, you should try to find a bigger computer to process these files on.
