What is the meaing of “ processors”

Most of mothur commands have “ processors” parameter.I want to know the exact meaing of this parameter.If my computer use a i7 4790 cpu,what the number of processors should I input?

To be honest, I’m not 100% whether they execute as new threads or new processes, but to answer your question you could use up to processors=8 on an i7 4790 cpu (4 cores, 2 threads per core).
