Prediction of microbiota dynamics from time-series profiles?

Hi,

Quite a while ago, I came across this work by Stein and others (journals.plos.org/ploscompbiol/article?id=10.1371/journal.pcbi.1003388) and an application of their method (http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v517/n7533/full/nature13828.html).

I’ve been wondering: would it be an interesting addition to mothur?

This is probably beyond what we will put into mothur. It requires a very specific type of data, careful curation, and interpretation. Maybe someday, but not immediately.
