Novel normalization technique?

I wonder if the normalization technique they described recently here in:

http://www.nature.com/nmeth/journal/v10/n12/full/nmeth.2658.html?WT.ec_id=NMETH-201312

could be implemented in Mothur as an alternative to subsampling?

Thank you.

Daniel

Hi mothur team

This publication (http://www.ploscompbiol.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pcbi.1003531) goes into the same direction, stating that current ways of normalizing data (rarefying or standardizing) are not ideal. Given the sometimes large differences in coverage, these novel approaches might be very useful.

I would highly welcome such implementations into mothur.

Best wishes,
Martin

We’re looking into it - I’m not 100% sold, so I’m doing some additional simulations.

Hi Pat,

Is there an update on this? I’m told the approach is gaining a lot of momentum, and it would be nice to have the option to run this method for comparison if nothing else (especially when dealing with reviewers).

Thanks so much!
