# taxonomy file tailoring with reference file

Is it (or could it be) possible to tailor a taxonomy file as well as a fasta file to remove sequences using a list of accnos?

Workflow being … export sequences and their taxonomy from ARB, bring into mothur, realize you want to remove sequences from the fasta file after checking things out more in mothur (maybe found some chimeras), but then taxonomy file will also need accnos removed and as far as I know this has to be done outside of mothur/by hand?

Perhaps you’re looking for the remove.lineage command?

Can that be used without the taxon element? The fields I would like to remove from the taxonomy file would be ID’d by accession number not its classification.
